Lakadong Turmeric Powder

7–12% curcumin, from the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya.

7–12% curcuminGI Reg. No. 741Directly procuredNo added colour

Lakadong is the world's most potent everyday turmeric: grown around Lakadong village in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills, it tests at 7–12% curcumin against the 2–3% of ordinary haldi, and holds a Geographical Indication registration (No. 741, 2024). We procure it directly from hill farmers in the North-East, sun-dried and ground whole. Deep gold in colour and strong in aroma, a little goes further — in haldi doodh, in cooking, or anywhere you want turmeric to actually work.

Why this jar earns its place

नैसर्गिक लाभ · natural goodness

Three to four times the curcumin

Ordinary turmeric tests at 2–3% curcumin. Lakadong, grown around one village in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills, tests at 7–12% — the highest of any everyday turmeric, recognised with its own GI registration in 2024. Same spoon, several times the active compound.

  • 7–12% curcumin, verified by origin — not by a lab additive
  • GI Reg. No. 741 (2024) protects what Lakadong means
  • Deep gold colour and strong aroma with no polishing or dye

आयुर्वेद · the ayurvedic view

Old wisdom, stronger raw material

Everything Ayurveda says of haridra — warming, purifying, a daily protector — assumes potent turmeric. Lakadong is simply that assumption honoured. Tradition also pairs haldi with fat and black pepper, and modern understanding agrees: curcumin absorbs best with both.

  • Take it the traditional way: warmed in milk or bloomed in ghee
  • A pinch of black pepper helps the body absorb curcumin
  • Potent enough that half the usual quantity does the job

रोजच्या वापरात · every day

For the cup, not just the curry

Use Lakadong where turmeric is the point: haldi doodh before bed, a golden paste for kadha, the morning turmeric-honey spoon. It cooks beautifully too — but most families keep this jar for the cup and the Sangli jar for the phodni.
